Diminution
The act, process, or an instance of becoming gradually less (as in size or importance)
Why Diminution
Diminution is a fundamental and distinct feature of Ludum Vitae, it encapsulates the balance between the push of potential loss (the dark) and the pull of value creation (the light). It’s a mechanism that reduces token value for neglect, urging players (push) to actively engage and nurture their creations, while rewarding attention and innovation (pull) encourages the growth and strengthening of ideas and bonds within the sphere. This duality ensures a dynamic environment where the fear of loss and the aspiration for achievement coexist, driving the community towards continuous engagement and improvement.
Diminution is the opposite of Attention.
As of 2024 we are unaware of any platform that uses this feature of extracting value and reallocating it. Please contact us if you know of anyone doing this.
Within each sphere Members pay to create Gems (tasks and goals), diminution in LV refers to the reduction of token value when these gems and bonds are neglected, are misaligned, or lack attention. Essentially, the token wallet maintaining the Gem diminishes to zero if users fail to actively engage with the Gem, acting as a form of incentive to maintain regular interaction and focus on their tasks and goals. The process of diminution in this case serves as a game mechanic to enforce active participation and commitment within the system.
The exact workings of Diminution will depend on what we learn from player behavior, any token value can be programmed to be targeted.
Diminution Wallet Priority
This is the order given minimal activity in the sphere, assuming the sphere has lots of activity and you are not participating. It is rare that your wallet will be targeted if you have a average number of tokens, however ownership in a failing Gem can cause your wallet to be targeted.

- Sphere
If a sphere has no Gems or Bonds created, diminution is applied in greater force to member & other wallets.
Spheres, Members, Gems and Bonds all have different diminution rules, visit the respective pages for more information on this.
Warning
Diminution is NOT mutually exclusive meaning you can be double and triple hit for bad behavior on top of disengagement.
Ignoring Requests
If your member has pending requests in which you don't accept or deny them in a timely fashion your wallet may experience significant diminution, even the fees associated, like tributes.
Mitigating Diminution
Members can create Bonds between Gems's, by establishing connections of support this is the most effective way to avoid diminution, even more than attention. The Gem benefits from the attention given to associated Gems.
Vacation Mode
Members will have access to “vacation mode” where their wallets will be protected up to indefinitely (for a token fee). Vacation mode prevents them from receiving any payouts from completed/owned gems and bonds.
Diminution Strategy
We intend to use algorithms based on known principles like the pareto principle to target any sources of low activity or misaligned activity. In many cases the Diminution algorithm will select the top 20% of the worst performing targets.
Where does it go?
All tokens collected by the Game Master Diminution process during that cycle are transferred to the Sphere Token wallet, a small amount may be taken for system maintenance fees. These tokens can be used to operate the sphere but the majority of them are paid back to Gems and Bonds that are getting productive attention.
